M.14. Unpacking The Platformisation And Datification Of Education: Processes, Actors, Positionings and contexts
Platformisation and datification processes are changing the landscape of many education systems, regarding both its governance and the experiences of the school actors. From the point of view of the political economy, the increasing influence of private actors, and particularly Big Tech corporations, in the agenda setting of education policies worldwide has been analysed (Williamson et al., 2023). Research has also explained the process of adoption of specific private digital platforms in national education systems, highlighting its different expressions at the school level, from alignment to resistance (Jacovkis et al., 2022). In a scenario were nor the adoption neither the restrictions of digital platforms at schools have considered the systematic participation of the school actors, this panel aims to explore different strategies developed by the school actors to manage the platformisation and datification of their school systems and of their own experiences.
Therefore, authors are invited to send abstract to this panel which address the platformisation and datification of education focusing on (1) the political and institutional dimensions of the processes or (2) the reconfiguration they represent for the education communities or its members (principals, teachers, students or families) at the school level. Empirical papers and theoretical, analytical and methodological contributions to the study of the platformisation and datafication of education that place democracy and educational justice at the centre are welcome.
