According to Save the Children, educational poverty refers to the deprivation of children's opportunities to learn, develop, and flourish in terms of their abilities, talents, and aspirations. It undermines the right to education and to meaningful learning opportunities in everyday contexts (family, school, friendships, sport&leisure).

Research shows that educational poverty is often intertwined with complex life trajectories. Among the many factors that can hinder the developmental path, there is the experience of living outside one's birth family, due to the outcomes of adverse childhood experiences (Sinclair et al.,2020; Oakley et al.,2018; Stein et al.,2008), traumatic events, or deprivations (Dalen&Steinar, 2019; Ferritti et al.,2022; Lorenzini, 2023, 2019; Balenzano et al., 2024).

Studies have long drawn attention to the critical dimensions, which involve situations of disadvantage, exclusion, stigma, and discrimination (Garber&Grotevant, 2015; Ferritti, 2019). However, having supportive relationships and networks can be a protective factor in shaping resilience and positive life trajectories (Forsman et al., 2016; Ricchiardi&Coggi, 2019; Ricchiardi, 2022). The challenge is to develop strategies to address educational poverty promoting equal rights and social justice for all children (Goding et al., 2022).

The panel aims to explore the topic from a multidisciplinary perspective by investigating theoretical approaches, research, innovative practices, and social policies aimed at reducing inequalities, stigma, discrimination, and promoting participation processes.
