D.05. Evaluating Education and Democracy: Approaches, Methodologies and Practices for Social Justice and Critical Literacy in the Digital Era
This panel explores how evaluation can assess and strengthen the reciprocal bond between learning and democracy, focusing on some of the critical twenty-first-century challenges: social inequality, digital transformation, and the growing proliferation of disinformation. We seek multidisciplinary research—spanning theoretical, empirical, and methodological fields—aimed at achieving a more just, inclusive, and genuinely participatory society.
Building on this perspective, contributions may investigate the multidimensionality and intersectionality of poverty, as well as the effectiveness of policies addressing education, inequality, and social justice. The call also encourages analyses of how evaluation practices and results can foster a renewed critical democratic literacy within an infosphere increasingly shaped by polarization and hate speech. Submissions should present methodological frameworks and empirical studies that transcend the rigid separation between Learning for Democracy and Democracy for Learning, positioning evaluation as a tool for emancipation, active citizenship, and equitable educational opportunities.
